Entrepreneurs benefiting from the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) have been urged to conduct their social and economic activities while safeguarding the environment through the use of clean energy.

Tunu Pinda, National Leaders’ Chairperson, made the call yesterday in Ilemela District, Mwanza Region, during a visit and inspection of TASAF projects.

Tunu, who also chairs the New Millennium Women Group, addressed the beneficiaries saying, "We have seen how you are engaged economically, and we are especially pleased to see those who have successfully exited the program. Go and become ambassadors of clean energy in your family businesses to help protect the environment."

She further encouraged the beneficiaries to expand their businesses by utilising Mwanza’s resources, including fish, and consider exploring markets beyond the region and even abroad.

The delegation, which she led, also handed over gas stoves to beneficiaries to promote clean energy use.

She was accompanied by her colleagues Hasina Kawawa, Suzanna Fereshi, Brandina Ngereja, and Frida Charles Mwijage.

Mwanza Regional Administrative Secretary Balandya Elikana, who received the delegation, noted that the region is making significant strides in implementing TASAF projects and has recorded notable successes.

Presenting the implementation report, Mwanza Regional TASAF Coordinator Monica Mahundi said the program is being rolled out across all seven districts in the region, reaching 51,045 beneficiaries and supporting 412 projects worth 20.2 bn/-

Mahundi added that 3,857 savings groups had been formed, with 43,224 members and a total of 840 m/- saved. She noted that 16 groups had received 10 percent loans from local government revenue, totaling 47m/-, with the councils reviewing applications to extend the loans to more groups.

Representing TASAF CEO Shedrack Mzirai, the Fund’s Director of Systems and Communications, Japheth Boaz, said they continue to work closely with stakeholders to achieve the broader goal of empowering communities.
