WINGU Group Tanzania has launched $50m data centre expansion project aimed at strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and driving long-term economic growth and innovation.

Speaking at the launch in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Anthony Voscarides, Wingu Group co-founder and CEO, said the carrier-neutral facility reflects the company’s commitment to excellence and innovation, addressing the rising demands of modern digital operations and supporting technological progress across the region.

“Our carrier-neutral facility is designed to meet the growing demands of modern digital operations and drive the region’s technological advancement,” he said.

Located in Dar es Salaam’s Mbezi Industrial Area, the data centre is billed as a leader in the carrier-neutral data industry.

“The expansion underscores our commitment to strategic investments in state-of-the-art infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of our clients and supports Tanzania’s digital economy,” he added.

Ibrahim Jengo, technical and operations manager at the National Internet Data Centre, highlighted the project’s role in strengthening Tanzania’s digital infrastructure and aligning with the government’s digital transformation agenda to boost economic growth, innovation, and technological progress.

“The government is committed to fostering investment in the digital economy by enhancing infrastructure, promoting digital literacy, encouraging innovation, establishing regulatory frameworks, and facilitating public-private partnerships to drive sustainable growth and global competitiveness,” he said.

The second phase follows the success of phase 1, launched in 2022, marking a major step in Wingu Group’s mission to expand carrier-neutral digital infrastructure and accelerate Tanzania’s digital transformation.
